WHAT IS The BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SKILLS PROGRAM (BDSP™)?
OBIO’s Business Development Skills Program (BDSP™) grants funding for the training and development of employees and senior management who work for health science companies commercializing their intellectual property in Ontario. BDSP™ helps companies scale and grow by enabling key team members to enhance critical capabilities in-house. Our goal is to empower health science companies to grow in Ontario, stay in Ontario and be leaders in the global market.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS & ELIGIBILITY
BDSP™ provides financial support for companies to access training courses and knowledge transfer opportunities from subject matter experts in areas specific to intellectual property commercialization.
OBIO's program is designed for private health science companies, with a presence in Ontario, that are developing technologies or providing services in areas such as therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics or digital health technologies.
Companies may receive up to $90,000 in funding based on the number of full-time employees and their training and development needs.
Program support is intended for full-time employees based in Ontario.
Successful applicants are required to be OBIO® Members.

Developing The Leadership Capabilities of Your Senior Management Team
Health Economics, Reimbursement & Market Access Planning & Strategy
Intellectual Property Licensing, Planning & Strategy
*Examples of activities not covered by BDSP™ include internships, outsourcing or contracting of work to patent agents/lawyers, and operational or construction related expenses.
How to apply
*Not currently accepting applications.*
• Program funding is from June 1, 2022, through March 15, 2023.
• One application per company, submitted by a member of the senior management team.
• The funding tier your company qualifies for is based on the number of full-time employees (FTEs) your company has in Ontario,
1-4 FTEs: up to $25,000 in financial support
5-15 FTEs: up to $40,000 in financial support
16-30 FTEs: up to $70,000 in financial support
30+ FTEs: up to $90,000 in financial support
• Once accepted into the program, companies will submit a formal statement of work and funding will be based on plan performance.
